    Early Life and Family

    Born in 1957 in the village of Sahnewal, Punjab, India, Dharmendra Singh Deol, affectionately known as "Sunny Deol," is the son of legendary actor Dharmendra.

    Dharmendra, a devout Sikh, belonged to the Arya Samaj reformist movement. Despite the religious prohibition against polygamy, Dharmendra's love for actress Hema Malini led him to obtain permission from Brahmins for a second marriage without dissolving his first.

    Sunny has two brothers, Bobby and Rocky, both of whom also became renowned actors.
