Territorial changes
Iraqi government loses significant territories in northern Iraq to the Islamic State, including the region from Mosul to Tikrit and Tal Afar along with parts of Kirkuk and Diyala Governorates.[20]
Islamic State comes within 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the centre of the capital city Baghdad.[21]
A government counter-offensive leads to the recapture of territory north and west of Baghdad.[22][23]
Kurdish forces take control of Kirkuk, parts of northern Nineveh and north-eastern Diyala.[24
