    Wägayyähu Négatu (b. June 1944, Addis Abäba, d. December 1989) was a popular Ethiopian

    theatre actor.

    He was the only child of ato Négatu Bézunäh and Amsale Bäyyänä.  He first attended the Swedish Evangelical Mission (Evangeliska Fosterlands Stiftelsen) School and completed his secondary education at the Täfäri Mäkwännén School.

  • Wägayyähu Négatu was known for his humour and comic portrayal of film characters. In 1963 he joined the Haile  Sellassie I  University’s  Creative Arts and Theatre Programme (Addis Ababa University) and studied for two years the art of the theatre plays and stage production.

    He first displayed his talents in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, Samuel Becket’s Waiting for Godot and Mängéítu Lämma’s The Marriage of Un- equals and Snatch and Run, or Marriage by Abduction.
