    Zoya Buryak was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, but moved to Odessa with her family when she was five years old.

    In , she decided to pursue acting and initially intended to apply to Moscow's theater schools. However, due to the Festival of Youth being held in Moscow that summer, she opted for Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) and was accepted into the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music, and Cinematography under the mentorship of renowned stage director Lev Dodin.
